How do the Age groups work?

The Youth soccer year starts in August of each year and lasts through July, with games starting at the end of August and generally wrapping up in June. The leagues that Eastside Kickers participate in usually have 4 seasons - Outdoor Fall (August -> November) and Spring (April -> June), Indoor Winter 1 (November -> January) and Indoor Winter 2 (January -> March).

The leagues are divided into "U" divisions based on age. The "U" division a player is placed in depends on their age on the last day of the soccer year - July 31st. For example, if a player is 12 years old by July 31st, 2007, that child is a U12 for the 2006-2007 year. If that player didn't turn 12 until August 1st, 2007, that player would be a U11.

Players cannot play with a younger group. Players are allowed to "play up" on the recommendation of their coach, but we always recommend that players start with the correct age group.

A handy chart for the 2006-2007 year:
